Pakistan to Announce Its First Digital Transport System Rawalpindi: Pakistan is set to announce its first fully digital transport system in Rawalpindi. As the national daily, citing sources, stated, the Punjab Information Technology Board will oversee the creation of the necessary software for this new public transport project.
The initiative adds establishing a control room and installing an e-tag system at the Pirwadhai Bus Terminal. This system will collect comprehensive data on vehicles at the terminal, such as route numbers, registration details, fitness certificates, ownership information, vehicle color, driver’s licenses, and tracking information.
The control room will see vehicles entering and leaving the terminal, assuring that only those meeting safety and service criteria can exit. This digital system, modeled after similar steps in Paris, London, and the U.S., is the first in Pakistan and may be extended to other Punjab cities if it proves successful.
The system will allow citizens to send complaints online regarding public and govt transport services. Rashid Ali, Secretary of the Regional Transport Authority, praised the digital transport project in Rawalpindi as a significant advancement.
He said that IT support has been provided by the Punjab Govt and that senior officials from the IT and Transport departments are scheduled to visit Rawalpindi on Sep 2 to finalize the project.
