Punjab Government Launches Support Program for Wheat Farmers with Free Tractors and Equipment Punjab’s Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has introduced a new support program for wheat farmers, offering free tractors and land levellers to boost agricultural productivity. This initiative, valued at billions, includes various resources aimed at empowering farmers and strengthening the agricultural sector in Punjab.
Key Benefits for Farmers
Eligibility | Equipment Provided | Distribution Method |
---|---|---|
Farmers with 12.5 to 25 hectares | 1,000 land levellers | Lottery system |
Farmers with over 25 acres | 1,000 green tractors | Lottery system |
Additional Support Under the Kisan Card Program
In addition to equipment, the Kisan Card program provides farmers with interest-free seeds, fertilizers, and pesticides to help boost wheat production, avoiding middlemen to ensure direct benefits. Launched on October 28 in Hafizabad, this program aims to improve farmers’ productivity and profitability.
Green Tractor Scheme and Subsidies
The Green Tractor Scheme has received 1.5 million applications and offers subsidies up to Rs. 1 million on tractors valued at around Rs. 4 million. This scheme is a part of the government’s commitment to improving the livelihoods of wheat farmers across Punjab.
Machinery Hubs and Solar Tube Wells
The government has allocated Rs. 10-15 billion to establish machinery hubs in each tehsil, where farmers can access equipment at affordable rates. Additionally, 7,000 tube wells will be converted to solar power, reducing farmers’ reliance on costly diesel and petrol.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz reaffirmed the government’s dedication to supporting farmers, stating that this program aligns with a vision proposed by former PM Nawaz Sharif. This initiative addresses farmers’ needs, especially in light of rising wheat prices, and represents a significant step towards sustainable agriculture in Punjab.
